Sarah Jane and I
In April this year (2009) I met the singer, actor and writer Sarah Jane Morris, and we have since set up life together. Paddy’s House, although it has become our home (or one of them), is still and will remain the fulcrum of my creative life, and the focus of collaborative activity. I am currently involved in a series of teaching/research days with an assistant and student, artist Denise Israel.
Next year, I plan a series of 50+ drawings of the singer (SJMorris). These will be published in Italy. I am also involved in a project to examine Venetian paintings in their original Venetian contexts and situations, and to study Venetian culture as it may be deduced from paintings of the Cinquecento. A research trip to Venice is planned in February. cf Post: “During the Venetian Night”.
Lost work of Charles Pulsford
In 1960, Charles Pulsford made a bonfire of paintings he considered water damaged beyond repair. Mark was nine years old when he helped his father build the pyre, and watched the flames consume some of the best work of his father’s life. Nearly fifty years later, Mark discovered photographic record of two of those lost works. The studies (The White Angel & The Shaman’s Wife-mask) included here are Mark’s reconstructions from photographs of these iconic works by his father. Mark’s intention is to realise each as fully replicated paintings, and to rescue them from oblivion. The larger of the two (The White Angel) measured 6’ x 4’.
Charles Pulsford died in 1989.
